Our Heritage
“Originally a portion of Porter’s Lake, the land that would become Blue Heron Lake was bought by George Weisbrod and Christian Hess in the early 1900’s. However, upon their death, the property was returned to the state. During this time, several cottages were developed on the property but there was no formal club established. On November 19th, 1926, the property was purchased by thirteen men from Allentown, PA. Two of these thirteen original members, George H. Moritz and Robert Ritter, still count descendants as club members.
On January 10th, 1927, the governor signed and sealed a charter for the “Blue Heron Development Company”. More members were invited into the club, in order to pay back the debt of purchasing the property. By 1930, there were 55 members of the club and slowly, the club developed into the community that it is today; a wonderful blend of sporting, relaxation, and naturism.”
Our Mission
“To be good stewards of our natural and club resources to provide opportunities for hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreation in a family-friendly, relaxing setting for member enjoyment today and for future generations”

Our Values
Blue Heron is first and foremost a hunting and fishing club. These Rules and Regulations exist for the welfare and guidance of the Blue Heron community of Stockholder/Members, their family members, and guests. They are also established to protect Blue Heron Development Corporation’s property and environment.
No set of Rules and Regulations can govern every situation. Rules are not a substitute for being a responsible neighbor and promoting open communication. Given that we are a community of less than 75 Stockholder/Members we need to make a personal commitment to talk and work together, with courtesy, respect, and trust, since this is the best way to resolve issues.
Membership Information
Founded in 1927, Blue Heron Lake Development Corporation is comprised of about 1800 acres of forest with 24 miles of marked trails, and a 95-acre lake. Our lake and stream contain bass, pickerel and panfish. And is stocked annually with trout. Kayaks, rowboats, canoes, small sailboats, and electric-only powered watercraft up to 16 foot in length are allowed. Members hunt turkey, deer bear, and small game according to PA state seasons. The club also maintains a skeet/trap/clay bird facility and two 100-yard rifle/pistol ranges. While we enjoy nature, we also work to conserve and protect what we have.
